Hilarious: I stole only GH¢15 (less than $4), not GH¢300 as the Police claim - Armed robber...
There was drama at the Manhyia Divisional Police headquarters last Friday when a suspected armed robber admitted to robbing his victim of GH¢15, and not GH¢300 as alleged by the police.
The suspect, Hamza Issah, 19, challenged the police in the presence of the media that apart from the GH¢15, he did not also rob his victim, Mr Baba Ali, an auto mechanic, of his motorbike as claimed.
According to Issah, when he went to Ali’s house, Ali told him he was a stranger and did not know his way around the area.
“So I had pity on him and only took GH¢15 and one of his phones. I took his flash drive but he said he had information on it so I handed it back to him. I did not take GH¢300 from him,” he insisted.
Police briefing
Issah made the disclosure during a media briefing on the robbery incident by the Manhyia Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Mr Kwaku Buah.
Mr Buah had told the media that the suspect was arrested after he had gone to rob the victim of his motorbike, mobile phone and GH¢300 with a pistol.
According to the Divisional Commander, on May 11, at around 2:30 a.m., the suspect, armed with a pistol with one live ammunition, entered the room of the victim at Sawaba and robbed him of the items.
He said about 3p.m. that same day, the victim saw the suspect riding the stolen motorbike around Suame Roundabout and raised an alarm which led to his arrest.
A police search on the suspect led to the retrieval of the pistol and the mobile phone which was identified by the complainant as his.
