Gunmen in Toyota Tundra attack Asiedu Nketia on Accra-Suhum road...

Some unidentified armed men have attacked the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia on the Suhum-Kumasi highway on Monday.

According to the NDC scribe, six well-built men who were in a Toyota Tundra with registration number, GT 666-12, crossed his vehicle with several other vehicles behind and started causing mayhem and havoc. “I don’t believe they are armed robbers because they did not make any attempt to steal anything from us. If they want to steal, they would want to go where they will get something but I don’t have anything,” troubled Mr. Asiedu Nketia said in Twi.

Narrating what transpired to Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwene on Monday, Mr. Asiedu Nketia explained that he was returning from his hometown to Accra when the incident happened.

He recalled that about 5-miles to Suhum in the Eastern Region, they [he and other occupants in his vehicle] saw a car behind them, sprayed in a police colour, “black on the down and white on top” but was sure it was not a police vehicle. As the assailants got closer, they “tried pushing my driver off the road. They wanted to hit my car”, he claimed.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia narrated that the suspects also overtook a Mahindra pick-up and stop the car as well. Speaking in the local language, he said, “we got down to see what was going on because they had started blocking all of us from moving.

At this time, a soldier friend of mine who went with me to see my hometown for the first time rushed to the scene to ascertain what was going on”.

The NDC scribe added “at the moment the soldier got there and started asking what was going on, about six well-built men with mask and AK47 raffles came of the Toyota vehicle but when they realised they were creating a scene and could be in for trouble, they jumped into their car and moved away”. He said, “we took photos of the cars so I called the National Security to inform them to alert the police but I have not heard from them again”. Mr. Asiedu Nketia said before this action, a convoy with one of the number plates reading “ODENEHO” had passed and the moment they passed, this vehicle which tormented them followed, which he suspects could be part of the convoy.

Asked whether the incident has scared him to the extent of applying for security protection, Mr. Nketia appeared unmoved by the action, insisting he does not have any fear because he has done nothing to deserve an attack.
