A well-known member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, Stephen Atubigah, has given a shocking revelation about how he wanted to become the next president of Ghana at an early age of 18.

The Supreme Court contemnor who has expressed interest in contesting the NDC presidential primary, ostensibly to become Ghana’s next president come election 2020, said in a radio interview on Accra based Rainbow Radio on Tuesday that he made known this to his father that he wanted to stage a coup d’état to overthrow the then government of former President Jerry John Rawlings.

"It is true I have that ambition to lead Ghana. I remember when I was 18-years-old, I told my father that I wanted to do a coup d’état and become Ghana’s president because it was only president Rawlings we knew at that time but my father advised against it," he said.

The two-time failed Binduri parliamentary aspirant also added that his decision to contest the NDC presidential primary for Election 2020 depends on whether former President John Mahama would contest or not.

"Whether you like it or not, the party is going to campaign on the achievements of John Mahama, so if he is alive, and would want to contest the 2020 elections, then we must support him," Mr Atubigah said in the radio interview.

Stephen Atubigah also stated that if he gets the nod from NDC delegates to become the flagbearer for election 2020, he will make former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings his running mate.

Already, posters of Stephen Atubiga have popped up and he concedes that his supporters from the grassroots designed and circulated them on social media.

Mr Stephen Atubigah who is now 42-years-old believes he is more than qualified to contest for the position of the president of Ghana.

“Yes I want to contest, because Nana Addo used 35 years to become president, I think I am ready and I will give them the run for their money.”
