NPP flagbearership race: Nana Akufo-Addo will go unopposed if...– Addai-Nimo
A leading member of the New Patriotic Party, Francis Addai-Nimoh, says President Nana Akufo-Addo will go unopposed and retained should he declare to contest the party’s flagbearership ahead of the 2020 general elections.
The issue of whether Akufo-Addo will seek a second term has been a subject of public discussion with some arguing his ‘old-age’ could prevent him from contesting the 2020 general elections.
At a media encounter last year, the president in responding to a question on the issue said whether to contest the 2020 general election will be a decision for the party to make.
But commenting on the issue on Sunrise morning show on 3FM Monday, Mr. Addai-Nimoh who is also the Member of Parliament for Mampong said: “if our president is seeking re-election, I believe that President Akufo-Addo will be retained unopposed to contest on the ticket of the NPP”
He said the party has completed its internal reorganization from the constituency to the national level and elected all executives paving the way for a flagbearer to be chosen to lead the party into the next elections.

Asked whether he intends to contest the flagbearership race as suggested by posters on social media, he answered in the negative.
He said his attention has been drawn to the posters but “I don’t know the rationale for it. Addai-Nimoh has not taken any decision” to contest the race, noting he has issued a disclaimer to that effect, saying “I don’t know where it is coming from”.
Mr. Addai-Nimoh also denied ever holding a meeting on July 6 to strategise on how to contest the flagbearership race when nominations open.
He has thus cautioned those behind what he termed unfounded allegations to cease.
